Five Missions of the Department of Homeland Security

DHS is a mission-focused organization. They continue to work with their partners in state, local, tribal, and private sectors to address new and emerging challenges while maturing and strengthening the homeland security enterprise. 

The five critical mission areas of DHS include

  • to prevent terrorism and enhance security,
  • to secure and manage our borders,
  • to enforce and administer our immigration laws,
  • to safeguard and secure cyberspace, and
  • to ensure resilience to disasters.

In addition to the five critical mission areas, specific focus will be made to:

  • to mature and strengthen the homeland security enterprise.
