Module 1: Introduction to Games and Learning


Module 1 Overview

Gaming to Learn is a course focused on the integration of gaming—in all its guises—into learning environments and instructional design. The emphasis is not on designing new educational games, necessarily, but rather on thinking deeply about learning from and through games while being exposed to the many genres, mechanics, and design principles that drive their popularity. In the end, the goal is not to have you design games, but rather to have you design learning settings through the lens of game development.

Objectives

At the end of this module, you should be able to do the following things:

  • Develop a personal and academic identity related to games and learning in order to critically examine games in terms of learning and design.
