This lesson includes an individual assignment and a team-based assignment as outlined below. You should use the Lesson 04 Assignment Instructions and Response Form to submit both responses in the same file to the Lesson 04 Assignment Drop Box.

  1. Lesson 4 Team-Based Assignment: Online Team Discussion

    The team-based assignment for this lesson involves an online discussion with your learning team related to Lessons 1-4 / Chapters 1–4 of the course textbook. At the end of this discussion, each student will submit a 600-word paper that summarizes their initial post to the team discussion and five takeaways derived from other team members’ comments in the discussion. What you take away from your teammates’ posts might include new insights, viewpoints, or application-oriented guidelines. Several examples of possible takeaways are provided in the document titled Instructions for Online Team Discussions.

    This team-based assignment requires you to post an initial entry in your team's discussion forum, reply to at least three posts by other students on your Learning Team, and then submit an individual paper derived from the discussion. The discussion is intended to foster the exchange of insights, perspectives, experiences, and expertise about leadership practices, concepts, and approaches.  Be sure to mark your calendar according to the timeframe for the three phases of the discussion as shown in the table below.

    Initial Posts by All Team Members

    Each member of the Learning Team posts an entry about a topic of their choice from any of the chapters designated for that discussion.

    Discussion / Reply Period

    Each member of the Learning Team contributes to the discussion by making comments in response to at least three of his or her teammates’ initial posts.

    Individual Assignment

    Each student submits a 600-word paper that summarizes his or her initial post and five “take-aways” derived from team mates’ comments in the discussion.

    Directions for each phase of the discussion and grading criteria for the discussion are provided in the document titled Instructions for Online Team Discussions. It is very important for you to carefully review these instructions BEFORE the discussion.

  2. Lesson 04 Individual Assignment

    Download and save the Lesson 04 Assignment Instructions and Response Form to your computer to complete the assignment. Please be sure to respond to all of the items in the response form.

    In your response for this assignment, you should demonstrate your mastery of as many concepts from the lesson as possible. Use APA (American Psychological Association) citation style for in-text references to cite material from the lesson; e.g., "Northouse (2015) indicated…". When applicable, also identify other sources referenced by Northouse; e.g., "Smith and Jones (2000) found that... (as cited in Northouse, 2015)." Optional: you may also reference other appropriate sources.

    Expected Outcome

    In this lesson, you completed the reading assignment, watched video recordings, and completed all the items for the Lesson 4 Assignment. Now you should be able to make conscious and deliberate choices to select and implement a specific leadership style that is optimal for a given situation.
