Discussion Forum Participation and Rubric

[Adapted from PBS Teachline Discussion Rubric, 2003 and the Intel]

Participation in the discussion forums is critical for maximizing your learning experiences in this course. You are required to be a part of an online community of learners who collectively interact, through discussion, to enhance and support the learning of each other. Part of the assessment criteria for the course, therefore, includes assessing the quality and quantity of your participation in the discussion forum. In some lessons, this participation will be part of the lesson. In other lessons, you will work as a team to develop proposals which the rest of the class will respond. Some characteristics considered to be part of excellent discussion contributions are outlined below. Your professor will consider these characteristics when assessing the quality and level of your participation.
