Lesson 03: Recruitment
Brieifing Report Scenario
This is part of the Individual Briefing Reports requirement. You can prepare three (3) briefing reports from among these lessons: Lessons 3, 5, 6, 9, and 12. Lesson 12 is required and will be the de facto final examination for the course.
Developing A Recruiting Strategy
You are part of the team has been brought together to develop a recruitment strategy for your agency, a county Social Services Agency in a large and diverse urban county. Your charge from the Director is two-fold: develop a long-term recruitment strategy, and also plan for next fiscal year’s hiring cycle, when it is predicted that there will be a large number of baby-boomers retiring (roughly 8% of the current workforce of 200 employees, including an almost even mix of grades from Deputy Director down to custodial personnel). The Director has asked you specifically to:
- Determine where to advertise and what strategy may be best employed to get the best new hires;
- Decide how to develop an internship program to work with the local MPA program;
- Identify key factors in the labor force that will impact a recruitment strategy, and
- Consider whether to bring in temporary or part-time employees v. full-time hires.
Consider each of these points and prepare a 3-page (single-spaced) briefing report for the Director on the results of your meeting.
