How many credits can I receive for my internship?
- 3 credits for a 150 hour internship
6 credits for a 300 hour internship
Can I serve an internship with a current employer?
- No
Are there specific requirements concerning how many hours I intern each week or specific hours to intern?
- No, internship hours are arranged between the internship site and student.
Is there a specific time I may apply for an internship?
- Students may apply for an internship during their junior (6th. semester standing) or senior year in the World Campus program.
Is there a GPA requirement?
- Yes, students must have at least a 2.67 GPA to be eligible for an internship.
Are internships paid?
- Penn State makes no provisions to locate paid internships. Most internships are unpaid. The student may, however, locate an agency willing to provide a paid internship.
Will Penn State locate an internship for me?
- No, the student is responsible for securing an internship placement in consultation with Dr. Garver.
Must I have student insurance during my internship?
- Yes, students applying for criminal justice internships are required to obtain liability insurance. The only insurance that will be accepted is through the American Psychological Association (APA). In order to qualify for the liability insurance, the student must first become a student affiliate of APA. Are there any prohibited activities associated with the Internship?
- Yes. Interns may not participate in firearms or swat-type training or be armed in any manner.
