Lesson 2 Activities

At the end of the module, look for a link to each of the activities to participate/submit.

  1. MOOCs and Badges: Earn the MOOCS and Badges badge from Penn State Digital Badges. This activity may take anywhere from one to two hours. There is a reflection (see Weekly Activity 2, below) due by Tuesday, so make sure you have given yourself plenty of time to complete this activity. 
    1. Click this link to bring you to the PSU digital badges page: Digital Badges (disabled for Welcome site). 
    2. Log in with your Penn State ID.
    3. To find the course, search “MOOCs and Badges” in the search bar.
    4. Once completed, post your link to the earned badges in the MOOCs and Badges Drop Box.
      1. Note: You are requred to earn a second badge in order to earn the MOOCs and Badges badge. To complete this activity, you are earning a total of two badges.
  2. Flipgrid: Reflect on the MOOCs and Badges exercise, by responding to three prompts by Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. (ET):
    1. How can badges or MOOCs (or both) be used in your speciality area?
    2. Are these types of technologies suitable for every learning environment?
    3. If you were to have a desired goal for your learners, could a MOOC or badge realistically help you reach your goal?

    Flipgrid activity will appear here in actual course.

  3. RIPPLES Matrix: This week you were introduced to the RIPPLES model. Using the matrix provided, respond to the questions and upload your matrix (with responses) to the RIPPLES Matrix Drop Box.
    1. You can download the unedited RIPPLES matrix template
      1. In order to edit the matrix you will need to go to File and then "Make a copy" in order to save it to your own drive
    2. Fill out the RIPPLES matrix
    3. Submit the link to your edited version in the RIPPLE Matrix Drop Box by Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. (ET).
  4. Word-Matching Activity (Not graded): On page 83 of Chapter 8, complete the word-matching activity. A template of the activity can be found here. You will need to make a copy of the template in order to edit and then submit. Once you have completed the activity, please submit the link to your document in the Word-Matching Activity Drop Box by Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. EST.

  5. Blueprint Introduction: You were introduced to the blueprints this week, as you will be required to complete three throughout the remaining weeks of the course. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the blueprint projects, feel free to post them in the Blueprint Q&A Discussion Forum. This forum will perpetuate throughout the course and will not be graded. You may also locate this forum by selecting the Discussions link in the course navigation menu.
