Lesson 6: Selection
Lesson Overview
Effective recruitment provides an employer with an array of minimally qualified individuals from which one can identify those who will be most effective in the positions for which the search was initiated. This lesson will focus on the tools employers can use in choosing from among these candidates. Keep in mind that the selection process is essentially an opportunity to predict which applicants are most likely to succeed. The key will be to identify those tools that will be most effective in making those predictions.
Lesson Objectives
Upon successful completion of this lesson, you should be able to
- explain concepts of validity and reliability, and their significance in analyzing selection processes;
- identify at least five selection tools that are commonly used to select employees;
- explain the utility of each tool; and
- apply relevant legal standards to the selection process.
