Lesson 13: Health and Safety at Work
Lesson Overview
Throughout its existence, an organization must assume at least legal responsibility for the health and safety of its workforce and other stakeholders. Many of us believe organizations also have a moral responsibility. This lesson addresses health and safety from a variety of points of view including: OSHA compliance; workplace violence; and risk management policies designed to prevent harm.
Lesson Objectives
Upon successful completion of this lesson, you should be able to
- describe and explain the manner in which the Occupational Safety and Health Act promotes safety at work;
- describe an employer’s responsibilities under the Act;
- explain how organizational communications help to create a safe environment at work;
- describe the types and incidence of workplace violence; and,
- create a plan to avoid, where possible, incidences of workplace violence.
