Lois Lowry

The Giver was Lois Lowry's second Newbery Award winning book. In this book she describes a society's attempts at building a perfect society, one in which pain and conflict do not exist. You may wish to note how she takes you into this world, how long it takes you to feel you understand this world (many readers experience the book for the first time as confusing, like being in a fog) and how, bit by bit she shows that this world may not be working as well as its creators intended.
