Thought-Provoking Exercise

Thought-Provoking Exercise

In the following scene from the movie And Justice For All, Al Pacino plays a defense attorney who is defending a well known and highly respected judge who is on trial for rape and aggravated assault.  This is one of the most famous movie endings of all time and it raises the question of how justice is defined and whether the modern-day adversarial system of justice is truly interested in seeing to it that the guilty are convicted and the innocent are set free.

After watching the scene, consider the following question: Is justice a realistic goal within such a complex and sometimes competitive system?

Post your thoughts to the Lesson 1 Thought Provoking Exercise discussion forum in the Lesson 1 folder. Be sure to return later in the week to respond to other students' posts.
