Now that you have completed this lesson, you should be able to:
- Explain the evolution of emergency management in the United States.
- Define the concept of an “all hazards approach” to emergency management.
- Define terrorism.
- Explain the purpose of terrorism.
- Explain why a terrorist attack is perceived as an act of war.
- Explain the two major differences between traditional hazards (i.e., hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, hazardous materials incidents) and the new hazards associated with terrorism.
- Describe the four principal categories of hazards associated with terrorism.
Assignments
- Answer a minimum of two of the Discussion Forum questions located in the lesson folder. Your postings should be articulate and thoughtful, yet concise. Include examples where appropriate to support your point of view.
- Respond to at least one other student Discussion Forum posting. The objective of the discussion forums is to develop a discussion thread that stimulates critical thinking and in-depth dialogue. Professionalism and common courtesy are expected.
