Stressors on Family System
Horizontal Stressors
These are real world stressors, such as:
- predictable family transitions (death, marriage)
- unpredictable family stressors (illness, car accident death)
Vertical Stressors
These are psychological pressures, such as:- family legacies ("we came from the wrong side of the tracks and people expect us to not have good outcomes")
- family secrets (having a child and giving them up for adoption and this impacting how you interact with later born children)
